EXPEDITION itinerary

DAY 0  Arrive in Tokyo • 131 FT

An afternoon arrival to Tokyo gives us time to meet for dinner, drinks and a bit of city nightlife. Tokyo is full of paradox and curiosity – we begin our journey with full immersion into this massive city – the most populous city in the world!

DAY 1  Travel to Hakone • 4,718 FT

Following coffee and breakfast at our Tokyo hotel, we will travel to the mountain town of Hakone. Sitting at the base of Mt. Fuji, the mountain town of Hakone offers hot springs (onsen pools), traditional cuisine and a countryside perspective of our objective. Here, we will visit a traditional Shinto monastery and shrine and shift from the mega-city of Tokyo in to mountain living. We will prep gear, get to sleep early, resting ourselves for the upcoming ascent.

DAY 2  Mt Fuji Climb Day

Our day begins early, as we start our ascent up Mt Fuji. We will ascend Fuji-san via the Subashiri route – a significantly quieter route that offers solitude, sweeping views, and a reflective mountain experience. Following six hours of ascent we arrive at a mountain hut for the night – served traditional meals and taking in the sunset above the clouds.

DAY 3  Summit Ascent and Descent • 12,388 FT

The next day we wake early, pre-dawn, to a sea of stars and quick alpine-start breakfast – then off for our summit bid. Our route continues in solitude until we merge with other routes just below the summit crater. Following the tradition; we will follow the summit crater for a full circle, drink hot green tea, and celebrate the sunrise with the gathered pilgrimage – taking in the centuries tradition of those that have come before us and those that will come after. After a summit sunrise over the island, we descend down and enjoy a hot meal, and full spa experience at our hotel in Hakone. Rest, reflection, and meditation will ensue.

DAY 4  Travel to Izu Penninsula

One more morning in Hakone – we’ll savor this slower pace, one more dip in the hot springs, enjoy our final cup of tea, and travel further south to the Shizuoka Prefecture in the Izu Penninsula for some good old fashioned site seeing and forest bathing. Lodging at a traditional Japanese lodg

DAY 5  Rock Climbing Day • Izu Penninsula

The Japanese coast is like none other – the culture, the amazing food, and the adventure: surfing, climbing, and mountain biking. Today, we will get vertical again, meeting up with our local guide who will lead us to an oceanside climbing area for the day – engaging in adventure with intention and purpose – connecting the dots between mindfulness, movement, and our desired state of being. This is a powerful and profound day. We will stay in the Penninsula for the night – soaking in the ocean vibes before heading back to the city.

DAY 6  Experience Tokyo

We start our day at a leisurely pace, making our way into Tokyo mid-morning, and spending the day experiencing all that the city of Tokyo has to offer. Keeping to the human powered theme of the the expedition – the afternoon is spent on a bike journey through the ancient sites in Tokyo. We will stay in the heart of Tokyo for the night and transition toward our flights home and the world that awaits us.

DAY 7 Travel day back home!

A leisurely morning gives us time to sleep in, pack our bags, and head to the airport for flights home.
